How can I access my domain name adminstration control panel (Plesk) to manage email accounts and other domain related tasks?
Login to Plesk control panel by pointing your browser to the address: https://www.yourdomainname.com:8443 (replace “yourdomainname” with the address of your domain, note the https and the port number 8443) If you see the missing certificate warning accept it: (you can install a security certificate to avoid this screen) click here for photos
How to create email accounts with Plesk?
To create mailboxes for other users:
- Click the Domains shortcut in the navigation pane.
- Click the required domain name in the list.
- Click
Mail in the Services group.
- Click
Add New Mail Name.
- Your domain name is shown to the right of @ sign, so you only need to specify the desired name for the mailbox.
This can be, for example, user’s first name and last name separated by a dot, a department name, or any other text in Latin symbols. The name should be short enough to remember. It can comprise alphanumeric, dash dot and underscore symbols. - Specify a password that mailbox owner will use for accessing his or her mailbox.
- Make sure that a check mark is present in the Mailbox check box.
- If required, limit the amount of disk space that this mailbox can use. To do this, under Mailbox quota select the Enter size option and type the desired value in kilobytes.
- To allow the mailbox owner to manage his or her mailbox through a mailbox administration panel, select the Control panel access check box and specify the language for the user’s control panel.
- To allow the mailbox owner configure and use spam filter and antivirus, click Permissions, select the respective check boxes and click OK.
- Click OK.
Now, the mailbox is created, and a separate e-mail administration panel has
been set up in Plesk. To enter it, the mailbox owner should visit the
URL https://your-domain.com:8443, type his or her e-mail address into
the Login box, type the password for the mailbox into the Password box, and then click Login.
How do I setup POP email account such as Outlook to use with my domain name?
Setting Up Your E-mail in Microsoft Outlook
Setting Up Your E-mail in Outlook Express (Link to Microsoft, Pop/SMTP server should be used as above)
Setting Up Your E-mail in Mozilla Thunderbird
Setting Up Your E-mail in Microsoft Entourage
What is my incoming (POP) and outgoing (SMTP) server address? (only if you host your site on our servers)
The address is “mail.yourdomainname.com/org/net” for both incoming and outgoing fields.
POP3: mail.yourdomainname.com
SMTP: mail.yourdomainname.com (same)
I can receive emails but I cannot send with “domain is not local” “551 This mail server requires authentication before sending mail from a locally hosted domain” error
As the error message clearly states: This mail server requires authentication before sending mail from a locally hosted domain. Please reconfigure your mail client to authenticate before sending mail
The email client in use probably needs to set the outgoing server to use ‘secure password authentication’ (in Outlook, it’s in the More Settings button, in Thunderbird, it’s in the ‘Edit’ button).
This can happen for a couple of reasons, first is that the Mail server requires a user name and password to send just as to receive but by default Outlook does not use the same info as pop and it needs to be set Manually. please use solution #1 below.
The Second reason could be that your ISP (Internet Service Provider, the company who provide you with Internet access at your location) does not allow its customers to send using their private SMTP server and require you to use their own, in this case use solution #2 or #3 below. Please try ONLY one of the following:
- 1. Locate your “Outgoing Server” settings:
In Outlook Click on Tools > Email Accounts > Change/Edit > More Settings > Outgoing Server - Check “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication”
- 2. Contact your ISP and request port 25 to be opened
- 3. Change SMTP address to your ISP’s, example smtp.att.net, outgoing.verizon.net
if you are using Mac OSX
Launch OS X mail then do the following.
- From the Mail menu, select (click) Preferences
- In the “Accounts” dialog box, select the e-mail account to be SMTP-authenticated and then click the Edit button.
- In the new Accounts dialog box:
- Select the “Account Information” tab.
- Under “Outgoing Mail Server:” click the Options button.
- In the SMTP Server Options dialog box:
- For “Method of Authentication” choose Password
- In the “User Name” text box, enter your campus account ID.
- In the “Password” text box, enter the password for your email account.
- Click the OK button to close the “SMTP Server Options” dialog box.
- Click the OK button to close the “Accounts” dialog box.
- Click the Close button.
I get a 503 error This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send
In Outlook Click on Tools>Email Accounts>Change/Edit>More Settings check the box “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
click here for step by step, see above “domain not local” error as well
I get an error “Unknown or Disabled User!”
When you get the error ” Unknown or Disabled User!” that means either
1. you entered the wrong user name (or forgot to include the domain user@domain.com not just “name”)
2. you entered incorrect password.
If you still can’t recover your password you can reset the password for the user via the Plesk, If you can see the login screen and some users are able to login than there is probably nothing wrong with the server!

What is “spoof site”, “phishing” ?
“Spoof sites” are web sites created by criminals to trick you into giving them your information. The sites are designed to copy the exact look and feel of the “real” site, in this case PayPal.com, but in fact, any information you enter will be going to criminals, not PayPal. These sites can be as simple as just copying the PayPal site via a “view, source” or built using advanced scripts so that for all intents and purposes, it looks and acts like the real PayPal site. After a thief builds such a site, they will usually email you (spam) saying things like “Your account is limited,” or “We require additional information,” or “Due to a security breach, we need to verify your information.” This is known as “phishing.” (Pronounced “fishing.” To project yourself against “phishing” see our Spyware Solutions page.) Stopping Spam Bots from using your website forms

Use CAPTCHA (also called image verification) for two purposes:
- To prevent your website from becoming a Spam Gateway to send Spam to other people when you want to use the Auto Responding feature.
- To protect your forms from sending you spam (and automated bot submissions in general).
Spam is a global problem and some of the actions below can help filter some spam mail and avoid email harvesting by spammers
Actions which can help reduce fight spam include:
- Enable spam filter on the domain name level. Login to your hosting control panel and enable spam filter for affected mailboxes. options include to mark suspicious emails with (spam) note or delete.
- Ignore all spam and spend less time as possible in dealing with spam emails. avoid unsubscribe attempts since this will probably only confirm your address to the spammers and waste your time even more.
- Enable junk mail filter in outlook to high and check Junk Mail folder to classify your trusted contacts as “not junk”
- Rename your mailbox and keep it private
